Howard Vogel, owner/broker of Hearth Stone Land & Homes, graduated from
the
University of Colorado with a degree in pre-law.
This education turned out to be a great background for the
ensuing professional ventures in construction management and real estate brokerage.
THEN:
After building
unique homes in the Evergreen, Colorado, area, Howard soon discovered an abiding interest in architecture and how
things were made. . . literally and figuratively. The initial homes and studios built on the mountain climes were
grounded in some unusual concepts in construction. . .namely the over-arching use of material already available which
eliminated the need for the production of new materials. During the beetle blight in Colorado, pine was still
plentiful. We soon were able to use the beetle kill trees to produce our own building materials and with some milling, we
could produce framing lumber and trim components. Free standing lumber which was available
for the cutting became flooring, beams, trim work for windows and doors, and wainscoting.
Trips to various salvage
areas in Denver provided antique doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, etc.
Various aesthetic
fixtures were gleaned as well, producing a one of a kind building which was not only environmentally sustainable, but also
much more affordable than conventional building models.
NOW:
Fast forward some thirty
years and carpentry gave
way to more formal professional construction that melded resort destination development and single family residential
development. Our methods and goals are eerily unchanged, and find more favor in the fast paced information age. The
developments we become involved in stress respect for the environment, our precious resources, and respect for our
neighbors' space, as well as the "critters" that come with these outdoor preserves.
Our company now specializes in
environmentally sound types of construction, development, and residential destinations.
Added to Howard's expertise
are the resources of a creative, energetic marketing director and a gifted website guru, plus the services of an
environmental preservationist.
Hearth Stone is a small company with very large
objectives.
